New Zealand Mountaineer Sir Edmund Hilary and Nepalese mountaineer Tenzing Norgay made the first official accent of Everest in 1953 using the southeast ridge route. They were the first ones to ever reach the summit of Mount Everest and claimed to be on top of the world, literally.
